Immaculata Softball Sweeps Keystone

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University swept Keystone College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs won both game in five innings, 10-2 and 11-3.  

Immaculata improves to 10-11 overall and 8-6 in the CSAC, while Keystone falls to 10-19-1 overall and 6-10 in the conference.

The Mighty Macs collected 29 hits in the two games. Holly Schell led the hit parade for Immaculata with five, and Sara Holleran, Julia Lamplugh and Megan Gallagher each had four hits apeiece.

In the opener, after two and a half scoreless innings, Immaculata broke through in the bottom half of the third for five runs on seven hits. Mindy Monastra had a two-RBI double that scored two runs for the Mighty Macs. Holleran then hit a RBI single that scored Monastra. Immaculata proceeded to load the bases for Carol Mastrosante who produced a RBI single. Gallagher singled home the final run of the inning as Lamplugh came home.

Immaculata scored one run in the fourth as Monastra hit a solo homerun.

After Keystone scored two runs in the top of the fifth, Immaculata scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the eight-run rule with two outs in the fifth. Allison Zborowski led off the inning with a solo shot. Gallagher and Schell each scored as Monastra reached base on an error, and Monastra eventually came around and scored the final run needed on a passed ball.

Nikki Curcione pitched all five innings for Immaculata, allowing just one earned run on six hits. Keystone starter Carissa Iyoob lasted just 2.1 innings as she was tagged for five earned runs on seven hits in the loss.

In the nightcap, Immaculata quickly distanced itself for Keystone by plating five runs in the bottom of the first, and proceeding to score in all four innings in which it batted.

Immaculata scored four of its five runs in the first on back-to-back homeruns as Monastra went deep with a three-run homer and Holleran hit a solo shot. Lamplugh scored the final run of the inning on a RBI single by Katie Schreck.

Keystone scored one run in the second, but the Mighty Macs came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Zborowski had double that scored two runs and Gallagher drove in Immaculata's other run on a single.

Immaculata made its lead 10-1 after putting two more runs on the board in the third. Keystone scored one run in its half of the fourth, but after Immaculata plated one run in the bottom of the fourth, and held the Giants to just one more run in the fifth, the game was called.

Zborowski got the win in the circle for Immaculata. She pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. Meagan Cunningham pitched the first two innings for Keystone and suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on nine hits.

Immaculata heads to Ursinus on Monday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
