Mighty Macs Split CSAC Doubleheader With Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa.Immaculata University's softball team earned a split with Cabrini College on Friday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Mighty Macs were poised to take two from the second-place team in the CSAC after their 10-4 win in the opener, but the Cavaliers were able rally late to eventually win the nightcap, 6-5, in eight innings.

Immaculata ups its record to 8-11 overall and 6-6 in the CSAC. Cabrini now sits at 14-12 overall, 8-2 in the league.

A five-run first inning and a three-run second proved to be all the Mighty Macs would need in the opener. They added two more runs in the sixth to capture the 10-4 win.

Sara Holleran hit a two-run homerun in the first to produce two of Immaculata's five runs. Holly Schell hit a RBI single to score Julia Lamplugh, and Allison Zborowski followed with a double that scored both Nikki Curcione and Schell.

Jackie Finkbohner singled to lead off the second, and scored as Mindy Monastra doubled. Holleran then hit a RBI single to center that Monastra was able to come home on. Schell had her second RBI single of the game, as Holleran scored.

Cabrini answered with three runs on five hits, all singles, in the bottom half of the third, making the score 8-3. The Cavaliers got one more run back in the fourth.

Immaculata tallied two insurance runs in the sixth as Schell came up with the bases load and hit a single to left field that plated Monastra. Zborowski then walked in Lamplugh to account for all the Mighty Macs runs.

Curcione pitched the complete game for Immaculata, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and striking out five.

Cabrini starter Marcelle Crist lasted just two innings, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits. Liz Zimmer pitched the final five innings, allowing two runs on four hits.

Finkbohner and Schell each recorded three hits in the opener, while Holleran, Schell and Zborowski each had three RBI.

Game two saw Cabrini rally from a three-run deficit after five innings for a 6-5 victory in eight innings.

Immaculata led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, when Cabrini plated one run to cut the Mighty Macs advantage to 5-3. The Cavaliers then scored two runs on three hits, including two doubles, in the bottom of the seventh and stranded two runners on base.

Casey O'Connell had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eight as she hit the ball into the right-center field gap that brought Mary Kate Smith across that plate.

The Mighty Macs pushed one run across in each of the first and third innings, and scored three more runs in the fourth to lead, 5-2. The Mighty Macs three-run fourth came courtesy of Finkbohner's three-run homer.

Finkbohner had three of the Mighty Macs five hits of game two as she was 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Lamplugh and Katie Schreck had Immaculata's other hits.

Zborowski pitched 7.1 innings for the Mighty Macs in the loss in the circle. She allowed four earned runs on nine hits

Zimmer recorded the win for the Cavaliers as she pitched a complete game, surrendering four earned runs on five hits.
