Softball Downed in Doubleheader By Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall swept Immaculata in a softball double header on Tuesday afternoon as the Diplomats won the first game, 10-0, in five innings, and won the second game, 6-2.

Immaculata was led by Carol Mastrosante's 3-for-5 and one run scored. Katherine Schreck and Mindy Monastra each had two hits, and Monastra had one RBI.

Franklin & Marshall did all its scoring in the first two innings of game one as it plated six runners in the first and added four more in the second inning.

Immaculata, which had seven hits during the opener, got two hits in the second frame but could not push a runner across the plate. The Mighty Macs had three more hits in the top of the fourth, but the inning ended with the bases loaded.

Liz Chudzik earned the win for Franklin & Marshall, giving up seven hits and walking four through five innings.

Immaculata's Nikki Curcione took the loss, allowing 11 hits and 10 earned runs in two innings of work. She also struck out one. Brooke Habermehl came in and pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits, no runs and three walks.

Similar to the opener, the Diplomats struck early again as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings.

The Mighty Macs eventually answered with two runs in the fourth frame to trim the Diplomats lead to 3-2. Mastrosante led things off with a single to left field and advanced to second when Megan Gallagher walked. Monastra doubled to center field to plate Mastrosante and put Immaculata on the board. Gallagher then scored when Allison Zborowski reached on an error by F&M's left fielder.

Franklin & Marshall responded with three more runs in the fourth to end the scoring at the final margin, 6-2. 

Sara Damato garnered the win in the second game, allowing only four hits for one earned run.

Zborowski took the loss for the Mighty Macs, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and fanning one.

Immaculata travels to Rosemont on Friday, March 26 for a CSAC doubleheader opposite the Ravens. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
