Game 2 Box Score

READING, Pa.
- Immaculata University was swept in a softball doubleheader by host Alvernia University on Thursday afternoon in the Crusaders' home debut. The Mighty Macs dropped both games with matching scores of 10-2 in five innings.

Immaculata slips to 0-3 overall on the young season while Alvernia improves its mark to 6-4.

Alvernia kept the Immaculata bats quiet during the opener until the Mighty Macs struck for two runs in the top half of the fifth. The Mighty Macs had only two hits up until that point, and had four in that half inning alone.

Mindy Monastra doubled to lead off the fifth for Immaculata and was advanced to third as Katie Schreck singled two batters later to give the Mighty Macs runners at the corner. Holly Schell then reached on a RBI fielder's choice as Schreck was erased at second and Monastra came home. Jackie Finkbohner then singled to advance Schell one base, and Schell scored on a Nikki Curcione RBI single.

Alvernia had scored two runs in the first and tacked on five runs in the third. The Crusaders also added two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Game two began similar for the Mighty Macs as they saw the Crusaders push three across in the first inning. However, the Mighty Macs held the Crusaders scoreless in the second and third while Immaculata plated one run in each of the half innings to trail just 3-2 after three.

Allison Zborowski walked for the Mighty Macs and advanced to second on a passed ball. Julia Lamplugh then hit a RBI double that scored Zborowski to account for Immaculata's run in the second.

Curcione took matters into her own hands in the third as she hit her first career home run.

With the Crusaders clinging to just a one-run lead, they managed three more runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth inning to secure the win in five innings once more.

Curcione (0-2) led the squad with a 4-for-6 effort at the plate with two RBI and one run scored. Curcione also took the loss in the circle during game one. She pitched 4.2 innings allowing nine earned runs on 14 hits. She also struck out one.

Zborowski (0-1) pitched the second game going 4.1 innings. She allowed eight earned runs on nine hits. She walked six and struck out four.

Alvernia was paced by Rhiannon Sorrentino who was 5-for-6 with seven RBIs during the afternoon.

Michelle Jensen and Deanna Dungee each took the win inside the circle for Alvernia.

Immaculata opens Colonial States Athletic Conference play this Saturday hosting Gwynedd-Mercy College at 1p.m.
