LA PLUME, Pa. – Immaculata placed four starters in double figures and outscored host Keystone College 17-4 in the extra session as the visiting Mighty Macs defeated the Giants, 74-61, in overtime Monday evening.
Immaculata (13-8, 11-3 CSAC) increased its lead on second place in the conference standings entering the final two weeks of the season while Keystone (14-6, 9-4) dropped both its head-to-head battles with the Mighty Macs as a result of Monday's loss.
Will Mascio and
John Boyd drained back-to-back 3-pointers in the overtime as Immaculata scored 17 unanswered points to put the game away.
The Mighty Macs hit seven consecutive free throws down the stretch to fuel the 17-0 run. Mascio scored all five of his points in the contest during the OT period. They were the only five points scored by Immaculata's bench all game.
Boyd led Immaculata with a game-high 24 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
Eric Barefield scored 15 points in regulation before fouling out of the game.
Jeff DeSantis had 11 before fouling out while
Nelson Torres scored 10. Robert Siter, the other starter, scored nine.
Trailing by two with 2.5 seconds to play in regulation, Boyd had a layup to tie the contest at 57-all. The Mighty Macs then intercepted the Giants in-bounds pass to force overtime.
Keystone had a pair of players record double-doubles, as Kenneth Hardnett had 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Malcolm Boone added 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Immaculata travels to league-leader Cabrini on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Cavaliers.
