IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University women's basketball team has earned the No. 6 seed in the 2010 Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament, which is set to begin on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
The Mighty Macs (15-9, 10-6 CSAC) will travel to Scranton, Pa. to take on the third-seeded Marywood Pacers (18-6, 13-3) in quarterfinal action of the CSAC Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. Immaculata will be looking to avenge its 80-66 loss earlier in the season to Marywood also in Scranton.
Immaculata is making its first postseason appearance since the 2006-07 campaign, and its third trip to the playoffs in the last five seasons. The Mighty Macs are led by three players averaging double-figures in points this season in Chelsea McTigue (15.9), Leah Kuczynski (12.0) and Chrissy Esbensen (10.5). Kuczynski and McTigue are the squad's leaders on the glass with 9.8 and 7.5 rebounds, respectively, while Kuczynski has amassed a team-leading 44 blocks during the year. Esbensen leads the Mighty Macs in both assists (4.9) and steals (3.0) per game.
Tuesday's contest will be just the second time Immaculata has squared off against Marywood in the conference postseason tournament. The only other meeting was during the 1992-93 season when the teams met in the semifinals, and Immaculata advanced to the championship game with a 58-55 win.
In the league's other quarterfinal game on Tuesday evening, No. 4 Cabrini will host No. 5-seed Centenary at 7 p.m.
The winner of Tuesday's contest will travel to either top-seeded Neumann or second-place finisher Gwynedd-Mercy for the CSAC semifinals on Thursday, February 26 at 7 p.m. The Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship Game will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the highest remaining seed. The winner of that championship game receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
