Immaculata Men Stumble At Cabrini, 73-70

- Despite three starters in double figures, the Immaculata men's basketball squad was unable to hold off host Cabrini in a key CSAC contest on Thursday night inside Nerney Field House.

Robert Siter led the Mighty Mac trio with 20 points while Nelson Torres poured in 19 and John Boyd finished with 17 points. Siter and Eric Barefield both grabbed five rebounds to pace Immaculata.

Immaculata, which led by six at the break, maintained its slim margin through the first seven minutes of the second half. Todd Stokley went in for a layup at the 13:08 mark to hand the Mighty Macs a five-point cushion, 43-38.

Cabrini would stall Immaculata during the next five minutes as the Cavaliers used a 15-5 run to flip the lead to a five-point Cabrini advantage with 7:40 left in the game. The Mighty Macs answered on a 12-2 run of their own to retake the margin, 60-55, with 4:44 remaining on two straight layups from Siter, six points from Torres and capped by Barefield's lay-in.

Cabrini responded back with an 10-2 run that provided the Cavaliers with a lead (65-62) they would never relinquish with 1:49 on the clock. The Cavaliers led by five points with 54 seconds remaining, 69-64, however the Mighty Macs tried to even the score during the finals seconds and even pulled to within one point twice. Cabrini was able to ice the victory as Cory Lemons went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final 12 seconds. 

Immaculata used its 51 percent shooting during the first half to grab a 35-29 lead at halftime. The Mighty Macs took the 9-8 advantage 13:36 before the break, and used an 8-0 spurt that saw six points from Siter to give the Mighty Macs a hold on the lead (15-8) by the 10:34 mark.

The Mighty Macs lead grew to nine (31-22) with three minutes left in the stanza when the Cavaliers scored seven unanswered points to cut the lead to just two with 35 ticks on the clock. However, Immaculata took advantage of a Cabrini missed free throw and turnover to net two layups before time expired at the break.

Lemons came off the bench to lead the Cavaliers with 24 points, and A.J. Williams added 11. Dom Farrello collected a game-high 10 rebounds.

Immaculata will be back at Alumnae Hall on Saturday, Feb. 13 as it hosts Centenary at 2 p.m. on what will be Senior Day for the Mighty Macs.
