IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University men's basketball team lost its home conference opener to Keystone College, 51-46, on Saturday afternoon inside Alumnae Hall in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
The Mighty Macs fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the CSAC on the young season, while the Giants improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the CSAC.
Rob Siter's 17-point effort led the Mighty Macs' offense. Siter also had a team-leading five assists and three steals.
Nelson Torres was the only other Immaculata player in double figures with 10 points.
Phillip Ogunleye chipped in eight points and led the Mighty Macs on the boards with seven rebounds.
Brandon Smith added seven points, four rebounds and had three blocks.
Immaculata trailed by four (25-21) at halftime, and baskets by Torres and Ogunleye during the first 90 seconds of the second half evened the score at 25-all. The Mighty Macs grabbed a brief lead (29-28) with 14:41 left as Smith put in a layup.
However, Keystone answered back with an 11-0 run of its own to lead by double digits, 39-29, with 11:34 remaining. Kevin Glenn spurred the Giants with five points during the stretch and Kenneth Hardnett had four points on two fast-break dunks.
The Giants never relinquished the advance the rest of the way, as the Mighty Macs never got closer than three points (49-46) the rest of the game.
Hardnett finished with a double-double for the Giants on 18 points and 11 rebounds. He also led the squad with eight steals. Mike Kelly chipped in 14 points, five rebounds, two blocks and four steals.
The Mighty Macs will be back in action at Alumnae Hall on Monday evening taking on Centenary College at 8 p.m.
