Men's Basketball Falls In Opener To Rowan

– Immaculata placed two scorers in double figures but Rowan came away with the 84-64 win in the men's basketball season opener for both squads on Wednesday night.

Nelson Torres led the Mighty Macs with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists. Rob Siter chipped in 11 points and four steals. Brandon Smith was Immaculata's leading rebounder with six grabs and added six points.

Todd Stokley and Darnell Malabet each finished with nine points while Kendall Peters added eight points to his five rebounds.

Immaculata led throughout most of the first 10 minutes of the contest, with its last leading coming with 9:08 remaining in the opening stanza, 20-19. The Mighty Macs didn't allow the Profs' advantage to extend out of reach, and Immaculata was down by just three (37-34) with 2:33 left in the half. However, Rowan ended the half on a 7-1 run to lead by its largest margin until that point, 44-35.

The Profs were 19 of 33 from the field in the second half to outscore the Mighty Macs 40-29.

Rowan placed five players in double figures, led by Sean Hughes' 15 points and seven rebounds. Kendall White and Akeem Johnson both chipped in 13 points.

Immaculata returns to action on Monday, Nov. 29 when it begins the Colonial States Athletic Conference slate at Neumann at 8 p.m.
