GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – John Boyd led three players in double figures with 19 points, but Gwynedd-Mercy pulled away in the final three minutes of the game to claim an 81-73 CSAC men's basketball victory over visiting Immaculata at Griffin Complex Thursday evening.
Immaculata (8-7, 6-2 CSAC) climbed to within four with 3:02 remaining. However, Gwynedd-Mercy held off the Mighty Macs thanks to Matt Johnson and Jon Hogga's combined nine points down the stretch.
Hogga finished with a game-high 20 points while Johnson poured in 17 to lead the Griffins. Johnson posted seven of his 17 points over the final 2:41, with five of those coming at the line, as the hosts salted the game away on free throws.
Hogga and Johnson hit a pair of layups at the 11-minute mark that turned a one-point deficit into a three-point lead (51-48) that the Griffins would never relinquish. That capped a 10-2 run by the hosts.
Rob Siter posted 18 points and Nelson Torres had 10 for the Mighty Macs.
Immaculata returns home on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. contest with Cabrini inside Alumnae Hall.
