IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University's volleyball team blanked Penn State Harrisburg, 3-0, in a non-league match Thursday night. The Mighty Macs won by set scores 25-16, 25-21 and 25-23.
The Mighty Macs are on a two-match winning streak with their overall record improving to 2-5. Penn State Harrisburg's record falls to 5-5.
Lindsey Silvestro led the Mighty Macs with eight kills.
Kathleen Haefner recorded a double-double with 17 assists and 12 digs, while also adding seven kills and four service aces.
Courtney Sahm led the defense with a team-high 14 digs.
Nicole Preziuso recorded six kills and nine digs, and
Katiemarie Gale also amassed nine digs.
In the first set, with the score knotted at four, Immaculata went on an 8-0 run, and the Mighty Macs never looked back the rest of the way. The closest the Lady Lions would come was within five at 12-7, but the the Mighty Macs scored four of the next five points to continue to outdistance themselves.
Immaculata led through the second set, but Penn State Harrisburg stayed close, and even tied the score at 12-all. The Mighty Macs held a slight 16-14 lead when they went on a 5-1 spurt to extend their margin to 21-15. However, the Lady Lions scored five of the next six points to close the gap at 22-22, and force Immaculata to call timeout. The Mighty Macs went on to win 25-21 as a kill from Haefner and a block from Lenosky and
Tabitha Reilly closed out the set for Immaculata.
The Mighty Macs were forced to play from behind for most of the early part of the final set. The Lady Lions quickly got ahead 6-3 before the Mighty Macs could rally to tie the set at 9-9. The two squads continued to be within at least two points of each other, and eventually tied the contest again at 17-all.
It was then that the Mighty Macs took their first lead of the third set, as
Kelly Langley served six consecutive points for the Mighty Macs, giving them a 21-18 lead. Penn State Harrisburg came back with three straight points, knotting the score again at 21-21.
The score remained tied at 23-all when Immaculata called timeout. It proved to be the catalyst for the Mighty Macs to close out the match, as they won two straight points to earn the victory.
Amanda Wade led Penn State Harrisburg with a double-double on 21 assists and 15 digs. Elise Williams held match-high honors with 10 kills for the Lady Lions.
Immaculata travels to Delaware Valley for a tri-match on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
