LA PLUME, Pa. - Immaculata's softball team split its Colonial States Athletic Conference twinbill against Keystone on Saturday afternoon, winning the opener, 10-1, and falling in game two, 6-4.
The Mighty Macs are now 10-16 overall and 9-7 in the CSAC while the Giants are 11-19 overall, 9-9 in the league.
Immaculata's Melissa Fetter pitched a two-hit gem in the opener, leading the Mighty Macs to the 10-1 win. Fetter struck out seven and the Giants' only run was unearned. She was also 1-for-3 with two RBI from the plate.
Immaculata put a five on the scoreboard in the second inning on four hits. Valerie Rutt-Guerriere got things underway for the Mighty Macs with a triple, and scored as
Julia Lamplugh singled right behind her.
Megan Gallagher singled to plate Lamplugh, and
Sara Holleran, who had reached on an error, scored as
Jackie Finkbohner was safe on an error. Fetter then tripled scoring Gallagher and Finkbohner.
The Mighty Macs added two more runs in the third as they loaded the bases on three singles, and Gallagher drove in
Melinda Monastra with a single. The bases remained load as
Tori Musselman was hit by a pitched to plate Rutt-Guerriere.
Keystone scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth, and Immaculata scored three more runs in the top of the fifth to end the five-inning affair.
In the nightcap, the Giants rallied for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the doubleheader split. Rutt-Guerriere had allowed just three hits during the first five innings before the Giants exploded with eight hits that produced six runs in the sixth.
Immaculata scored one run in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to lead 4-0 through five and half.
Finkbohner was 3-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored, and Fetter was 2-for-4 with one RBI in the second game.
Meagan Cunningham, who has suffered the loss in the opener, earned the win in the circle in game two, allowing nine hits and striking out four.
