GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Immaculata swept Gwynedd-Mercy in a CSAC softball doubleheader. The Mighty Macs defeated the Griffins, 4-3 and 10-2, respectively.
After Gwynedd-Mercy (2-16, 1-5 CSAC) ran out to a 3-0 lead in the opener, Immaculata (4-12, 4-4 CSAC) scored its four runs in the top of the fourth and relied on Valerie Rutt-Guerriere to keep the Griffins at bay the rest of the way. The senior righty surrendered eight hits and struck out five while yeilding just those three runs in the third.
Melinda Monastra singled to start off the top-half of the fourth inning and Melissa Fetter followed her up with a double. Rutt-Guerriere then singled to load the bases. With two outs in the inning,
Tori Musselman walked to score Fetter, and then
Jackie Finkbohner tripled to left field to clear the bases.
In the nightcap, Fetter (3-5) scattered four hits over five innings giving up two runs and striking out five batters.
Finkbohner was a key to the Mighty Macs' win in game two as well, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI in the 10-2 win. Fetter was also 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored, and
Carol Mastrosante had two hits in the second game.
Sara Holleran smacked a three-run double to left center in the top of the first inning, putting Immaculata on top early, 5-0. Immaculata got four singles from Finkbohner,
Julia Lamplugh, Monastra and Fetter to setthe stage of Holleran's hit.
Finkbohner walked in the second and was plated when Mastrosante delievered a RBI double to right field to push Immaculata's lead to 6-0.
The Mighty Macs went up 10-0 after scoring two runs in each the third and fourth. The Griffins finally put a run on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the fourth and were able to add another run in the fifth before the game was called.
Immaculata hosts Centenary in another CSAC contest on Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m.
