Softball Earns Split With Cabrini

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– Immaculata jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the first inning, propelling the Mighty Macs to their first win of the season with a 7-1 victory in game two, earning a split with Cabrini in Colonial States Athletic Conference softball action Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers took the first game, 6-5.

The Mighty Macs drew first blood in the second game with three runs in the first inning and two runs in both the second and third.

Immaculata was led by Jackie Finkbohner's 3-for-4 performance at the plate and two RBI. Finkbohner hit a two-run shot over the center field fence that accounted for the Mighty Macs two runs in the second.

Tori Musselman was 1-for-2 with two RBI and scored two runs. Melinda Monastra, Carol Mastrosante and Melissa Fetter all drove in a run for Immaculata.

Mighty Mac hurler Fetter (1-4) tossed all seven innings, striking out four and allowing seven hits. Cabrini's Liz Zimmer (2-4) took the loss in the circle, surrendering seven runs on 10 hits.

In the day's first contest, Immaculata trailed 6-1 after four innings, and after holding the Cavaliers scoreless in the top of the fifth, the Mighty Macs attempted the come-from-behind by putting four runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning.  

Finkbohner singled up the middle to start the bottom half of the fifth, and Valerie Rutt-Guerriere walked, advancing Finkbohner to second. Mastrosante then singled to bring home Finkbohner. Immaculata then loaded the bases for Sara Holleran to walk in a run. With the bases still full, Monastra hit a shot to left field for a double, driving in two runs.

Julia Lamplugh collected a team-best three hits in the first game while Finkbohner, Jackie Mullineaux and Monastra each tallied two hits.

Rutt-Guerriere (0-5) lasted seven innings in the loss, striking out five batters and allowing 11 hits. Only three of the Cavaliers' six runs were earned.

Cabrini pitcher Cheri Johns (2-4) also notched five strikeouts and yielded 12 hits, and all five Immaculata runs were earned.

Immaculata (1-9, 1-3) continues CSAC play hosting Baptist Bible on Saturday, March 21. Game one is set to start at 1 p.m.
