Washington Sweeps Softball Doubleheader From Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Washington scored single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to steal an extra-innings win in the first game and the Shorewomen's offense exploded for four runs in the first inning of an 18-3 (5 inn.) win in game two as Washington swept a softball doubleheader from Immaculata on Wednesday.

In the opener, both teams were scoreless heading into the sixth, when Washington's Tori Ripple hit a shot over the left field fence to put the guests ahead by one run.

Immaculata answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Megan Gallagher led off the inning with a double to left field, and then scored one batter later when the third basemen made an error. Jackie Finkbohner, who had reached on the error, then cross the plate when Carol Mastrosante had a RBI double.

Washington (7-4) added the tying run in the top of the seventh when Leigh Carbutt singled in Gabby Devaud, and the game went into extra's after Immaculata failed to score in the bottom half of the inning.

Margaret Rohde led off the eighth with a double and came around to score the game-winning run for the Shorewomen.

Melissa Fetter (0-4) took the loss for the Mighty Macs in the first game after pitching eight strong innings, surrendering just three runs, just one earned, and seven hits.

Emily Adams (5-2) allowed two runs, one earned, and six hits during eight innings of work in the circle to earn the win for Washington.

Mastrosante and Julia Lamplugh each collected two hits in game one for Immaculata.

Valerie Rutt-Guerriere (0-4) started game two, but last just 3.1 innings getting rocked for 17 runs, though only 10 were earned, on 19 hits. Brooke Habermehl came in to finish up. She pitched 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and one run. Jackie Mullineaux had two hits while Finkbohner, Rutt-Guerriere, Melinda Monastra, Sara Holleran and Samantha Ferry all collected one hit in the second game.

Immaculata scored all three of its runs in the second when the Mighty Macs strung together six straight singles as Holleran singled home Monastra, Mullineaux plated Rutt-Guerriere, and Ferry singled in Holleran.

Meaghan Kimme (2-2) started the second game for the Shorewomen and pitched three innings, allowing all three IU runs and giving up five hits. Erin Ficca came in and pitched the final two innings with just two hits.

Immaculata (0-8) hosts Cabrini in a doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
