IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata men's basketball team held off a late surge by Baptist Bible for the 81-75 win on Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Hall.
The Mighty Macs improve to 7-13 overall and 5-6 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference while the Defenders slip to 8-12, 6-7 CSAC.
Kyle Finklea led Immaculata with 23 points while
Julius Lopez added 17 points.
Josh Alderson chipped in nine points, and Robert Siter had eight points and a team-high six rebounds.
Sean Fordham also grabbed six rebounds to go along with his five assists.
Immaculata gained a double-digit lead, 26-16, with 6:32 remaining in the first half, and had maintained that margin through the midway point of the second stanza. The Mighty Macs lead had grown to as many as 15 on four occasions, with the last time at the 13:26 mark of the second half, 59-44.
During the next 7:37, the Defenders went on a 20-6 run powered by Justin Cook's 10 points to bring Baptist Bible within one, 65-64, of Immaculata with 6:49 left in the contest. Baptist Bible would eventually tie things up at 75-all with just 2:33 remaining.
The Mighty Macs' defense was able to keep the Defenders from scoring during the final stretch and forced two turnovers. On the other end of the court, Immaculata was 5-for-8 from the foul line during the final 2:17 to win the contest at the line.
Cook held game-high honors with 33 points for Baptist Bible on an 8 of 13 effort from long range. Nathan Greve also reached double figures with 16 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Travis Wash registered nine points and six rebounds.
Immaculata shot a season-best 60.4 percent from the field (32-53), while Baptist Bible was 24 of 58 (.414) from the field and 11-for-24 (.458) from three-point range.
Immaculata travels to Marywood on Monday at 8 p.m. from another key CSAC contest.
