IMMACULATA, Pa. – Despite a valiant effort, the Immaculata University men's basketball team suffered a 61-57 loss at the hands of visiting Keystone College Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Hall in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
Robert Siter led the Mighty Macs (7-16, 5-9 CSAC) in both points and rebounds with 18 and six, respectively. Siter was 5-for-6 from the field and 8 of 10 from the foul line for the contest. Sean Fordham also added 13 points and three assists.
Tercel Taylor led the Giants with 19 points while Michael Kelly chipped in 11. Malcolm Boone collected a game-high 10 rebounds for Keystone (16-7, 9-5).
Immaculata got out to a 7-0 lead at the 13:31 mark, and led by as many as nine three times during the first half. The Mighty Macs last held their nine-point lead, 24-15, with 4:36 to play before intermission.
Keystone's defense closed the margin leading into halftime as they kept Immaculata without a bucket from the field during the final 5:16 of the half, and scoreless overall during the last 4:36.
Immaculata held the slim one-point advantage at halftime, 24-23, after Taylor scored six of the final eight points of the half for the Giants.
Keystone took its first lead of the contest on the opening basket of the second half. The two teams were trade leads five times and even tie the score once, but neither squad to push its lead greater than five until the final four minutes.
The Giants took a nine-point advantage, 55-46, with 2:44 remaining, but the Mighty Macs weren't going down with a fight. Immaculata held Keystone without a basket from the field during the final 2:05, setting up a chance to pull out the win.
Siter scored nine points over the final 2:34, including a 5-for-5 effort from the charity stripe. The Mighty Macs cut the deficit to two, 59-57, with just 18 seconds remaining after Siter's final point of the stretch but couldn't capitalize on their final attempt.
The Giants were just 4-for-10 from the foul line during the final 2:06, but it was enough to hold on for the win.
Immaculata travels to Gwynedd-Mercy for an 8 p.m. tilt on Monday, Feb. 16.
