Men's Basketball Makes Home Debut With Win Against Rosemont, 64-61

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata's men's basketball team was able to stave off Rosemont by outscoring the Ravens during the final five minutes, 7-4, to hold on for the 64-61 victory Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Hall.

Immaculata opened the home schedule by improving to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Rosemont falls to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Rosemont led by five, 57-52, with 6:01 left when John Boyd ignited a 12-4 run during the closing minutes for the Mighty Macs with his eight points. Boyd sunk a three pointer with 5:32 left to cut the Ravens lead to two, and Glenn Richards' layup 20 seconds later knotted the score at 57-all. Boyd then gave Immaculata the edge with his made free throw and he extended the lead to four, 61-57, with a three with 4:14 remaining.

Rosemont trimmed the margin to two, 61-59, on two Greg Gardner free throws with 2:50 left, and the score would remain the same until the final 17 seconds when the Ravens sent Boyd to the charity stripe. Boyd made the front end of the one-and-one to give Immaculata the three-point advantage. Rosemont came within one point on a Derrick Carter dunk with five ticks left, but Nelson Torres iced the win for the  Mighty Macs with two free throws.

Immaculata controlled the tempo of the first half, leading by as many as 17 points mid-way through the stanza, and the Mighty Macs led 36-23 at the break.

Robert Siter led the Mighty Macs' in with 16 points. Torres and Boyd both finished with 14 points and five rebounds each. Richards added seven points and Eric Barefield tallied six.

Rosemont was led D. Carter's 15 points, and Gardner ended with 12 points and seven rebounds. Harrison Carsillo led the Ravens' on the glass with a game-high eight rebounds. 

Immaculata travels to Baptist Bible on Monday for a 7 p.m. tip-off against the Defenders.
