IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's basketball team fell to visiting Eastern University, 74-55, Tuesday night at Alumnae Hall in non-conference action.
Immaculata's (4-5) Robert Siter scored a team-high 10 points and grabbed three rebounds.
Nelson Torres and
John Boyd each added six points while Torres led the Mighty Macs on the glass with six rebounds.
The Mighty Macs trailed by just five at halftime, 35-30, and the Eagles had led by no more than seven points during the opening 20 minutes.
Immaculata came out in the second half ready to play, outscoring Eastern 10-2 during the first four minutes to turn a five-point deficit into a three-point advantage, 40-37.
The Mighty Macs held on to a one-point lead, 42-41, after Boyd hit a jumper with 13:46 left, but Immaculata's hands would go cold. Eastern went on a 20-0 run over just under five minutes to give the Eagles a 61-42 lead with 9:03 remaining.
Immaculata was unable to recover from its scoreless stretch as Eastern outscored Immaculata 39-25 during the second half.
Eastern enjoyed a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures. Martin Soaries led the group with a game-high 13 points. Derek Wright and Alex Nelson each chipped in 12 points while Jason Reels added 11. Kyle Malloy led the Eagles with seven rebounds.
Overall, Eastern shot 52 percent (26 of 50) from the field as compared to Immaculata's 23-for-63 (.365) effort. The Eagles were also 19 of 23 from the charity stripe while the Mighty Macs made just seven trips to the line, nailing five tries.
Immaculata travels to Ursinus for its final contest for the holiday break on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
