Women's Basketball Falls At Marywood, 80-66

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Immaculata women's basketball team fell to Marywood Monday night in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both schools, 80-66.

Immaculata (3-1, 0-1 CSAC) placed four players in double figures led by Chelsea McTigue's 18 points. Leah Kuczynski, Rachel Denis and Kelly Brown all added 11 points apiece. Kuczynski paced the Mighty Macs on the boards with eight rebounds, and McTigue and Brown both tallied seven boards.

Marywood (4-0, 1-0 CSAC) held its largest lead of the first half, 26-15, with 8:35 remaining when the Mighty Macs began to chip away at the Pacers' lead thanks to a 17-6 run, in which Brown, Denis and Bridget Welz each recorded five points during the spurt, to knot the score at 32-all with 1:33 left in the opening half.

Immaculata took a three-point lead with 13 ticks remaining, but the Pacers' got a layup with four seconds remaining to give the Mighty Macs just a one-point lead at halftime, 36-35.

Immaculata led by as many as seven, 42-35, 1:39 into the second half after holding Marywood scoreless over that same stretch. However, the Pacers tied the game at 44-44 less than three minutes later with a small run of their own.

The contest was tied for the sixth time at 48-all, but Marywood went on a 13-4 run to take a 61-52 lead with 8:58 remaining. The Pacers continued to extend their margin the rest of the way for the final score, 80-66.

Marywood's Mariah Schaeffer held game-high honors with 25 points, while Stephanie Fusaro registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Immaculata next travels to Centenary on Thursday for a 6 p.m. meeting with the Lady Cyclones.
