SCRANTON, Pa. - Immaculata University won its Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball opener over host Marywood University with a 72-58 win Monday evening.
The win improves Immaculata to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC while Marywood slips to 3-2, 0-1 in the CSAC.
The Mighty Macs featured a well-balance scoring attack, getting points from nine of 11 players, including three players in double digits. Robert Siter and Eric Barefield paced Immaculata with 14 points apiece, and John Boyd chipped in 12 points off the bench. Barefield rounded out the contest with a double-double, adding a team-best 10 rebounds to his 14 points.
Immaculata jumped out to a nine-point halftime lead, 40-31, primarily due to its 55 percent shooting (16-29) from the field. Meanwhile, Marywood was plagued by poor shooting during the first half, hitting just 8 of 24 shots (.333). The Pacers' strength was their accuracy from long range, as five of their eight baskets came from behind the arc.
Immaculata went ahead by 11 points, 42-31, on its opening possession of the second half, and the Mighty Macs maintained a double-figure margin the rest of the way.
Matthew Medici scored 13 points to lead Marywood, and Jacques Robinson had 11 in the Pacers' loss.
Immaculata returns to action on Thursday as the Mighty Macs travel to Centenary. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
