IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season, 7-2, against league foe Baptist Bible on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs set the tone early by sweeping the doubles competition.
Immaculata (1-6, 1-2 CSAC) won all three doubles matches to take the early 3-0 advantage on the Lady Defenders. Margaret Kelley and Amanda Wilson were 8-6 winners at No. 1 doubles against Katie Boger and Kellie Bernard. Erica LaMarch and Felicia Thomas dispatched Carrie Brame and Glenna Mead at second doubles, 8-4, while Katherine Boyle and Kaitlyn O'Donnell won 8-6 opposite Elizabeth VanderHeide and Mary Ganong.
IU clinched its first victory of the season with wins at No. 1 and 4 singles. Thomas was the first to finish at fourth singles after defeating Mead, 6-0, 6-1. Kelley then claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win at the top singles position.
Kristen East was also a winner at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-3, over VanderHeide, while LaMarch won her match at No. 3 singles against Brame, 6-2, 6-4.
Immaculata takes to the road on Monday at 4 p.m. against Arcadia.
