Gwynedd-Mercy Takes Two From Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata softball dropped a pair of Pennsylvania Athletic Conference games to Gwynedd-Mercy, 5-1 and 3-0, on Friday afternoon.

The Mighty Macs fall to 3-13 overall and 3-9 in the PAC, and Gwynedd-Mercy improves to 14-7, 10-2 PAC.

In game one, the Griffins scored four runs in the top of the first inning, and added an insurance run in the second. The Mighty Macs pushed one run across the plate in the bottom of the first, but come not get another run across the rest of the game, stranding seven runners on base.

Immaculata had back-to-back doubles by Carol Mastrosante and Valerie Rutt-Guerriere in the bottom half of the first inning to score the Mighty Macs only run.

Mastrosante and Jackie Finkbohner both finished game one 2-for-4. Rutt-Guerriere was 1-for-2 with the RBI. Rutt-Guerriere allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits in the circle for Immaculata. Rutt-Guerriere also held the Griffins hitless the final four innings of the game.

Jayme DiLeonardo went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Griffins, while Jenn Smull amassed two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Susan Miller pitched a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits to get the win.

In the nightcap, it was a one-run game until the Griffins scored two runs in the top of the sixth innings for the 3-0 victory. Gwynedd-Mercy led 1-0 after scoring a run in the third.

The Mighty Macs mustered just three hits, one each from Mastrosante, Sara Holleran and Megan Gallagher.

Melissa Fetter pitched the complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits to suffer the loss. Heather Morgan pitched the complete-game shutout for the Griffins to earn the win.

DiLeonardo again went 2-for-4 with one run scored, while Kate Cassidy collected two hits and one RBI.

Immaculata will be off until Tuesday, April 15, when it travels to Eastern at 3 p.m.
