Immaculata Softball Sweeps Doubleheader From Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. – Immaculata University swept a softball doubleheader over Rosemont College on Saturday with a pair of convincing victories. The Mighty Macs topped the Ramblers, 20-1, in game one and 14-0 in game two, one-hitting Rosemont in the second tilt.

Junior Valerie Rutl-Guerriere (1-3) threw five innings in game one to record the win. She allowed six hits and struck out seven while allowing no walks.

Melissa Cifaloglio was 4-for-5 with six RBI and two runs scored, and Carol Mastrosante went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and two runs scored. Melissa Fetter was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI. Melinda Monastra scored three runs for the Mighty Macs, while going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In the nightcap, Fetter (2-2) started and pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing one hit, walking four and striking out nine to earn her second straight victory of the season. Fetter has a no-hitter going through 4.1 innings when Kaitlin Rogers singled in the bottom of the fifth to break it up.

Fetter helped her own cause, going 3-for4 with two runs scored. Sara Holleran went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI while Mastrosante was 2-for-2 with two RBI. JenaRae Carabasi was 2-for-3 at the plate and Jackie Mullineaux was 2-for-5. Megan Gallagher tallied three RBI and Monastra drove in two runs.

Rogers took the loss for Rosemont in game one. Tammy Do suffered the loss in the second game. Do also had two of the seven hits on the afternoon for the Ramblers, going 2-for-2 in the first contest.

Immaculata's softball squad travels to Northampton Community College on Tuesday, April1, at 3 p.m.
