Softball Drops A Pair To Cedar Crest

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Cedar Crest pushed across the winning run in the top of the fifth inning in game one and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third winning in the nightcap to take both ends of a PAC doubleheader against Immaculata, 1-0 and 2-0, respectively, Friday afternoon.

Game one was an epic pitchers duel between Immaculata's Melissa Fetter and Cedar Crest's Allison Holland. Each tossed a complete game with Holland earning her third win of the season, yielding no runs on five hits. Meanwhile, Fetter (0-2) struck out six batters and allowed one run on three hits. Fetter had a perfect game broken up in the top of the fifth inning when Sarah Campbell reached on an error.

Campbell proved to be the game winner when Alyssa Kabat singled her home two batters later, breaking a 0-0 tie. Immaculata (0-4, 0-4 PAC) had its chances in the bottom of the fifth and again in the bottom of the seventh, but each time the Mighty Macs left two runners on base.

Missy Hopely finished 2-for-3 in game one to lead the Mighty Macs.

Cedar Crest (4-5, 2-0) took a 1-0 lead after Tasha Breiner had a leadoff walk in the top of the third. Lisa Cassavaugh came in to pinch-run for Breiner and was advanced to second Maria Mallery. Cassavaugh advanced to third on a wild pitch and then came around to score on another wild pitch.

The Falcons added an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning as Holland helped herself out with a lead-off double. Campbell followed that with a single. Alyssa Bonner grounded out but advanced both runners and Holland scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Kabat.

Valerie Rutl-Guerriere pitched a complete game in the night cap, allowing two hits and two runs over seven innings. The Falcons' Holland (4-3) pitched another complete game shutout, allowing just four hits.

Immaculata will try to get on the winning track on Wednesday, March 26, at Washington College at 3 p.m.
