Immaculata Advances To PAC Championship Game

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The trio of Kyle Finklea, Dan Lepone and Scott Martson combined for 50 of Immaculata's 82 points as the second-seeded Mighty Macs down No. 3-seed Misericordia, 82-65, in the semifinal round of the 2008 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday evening at Alumnae Hall. The 82 points put up by Immaculata was the most points allowed by Misericordia this season.

With the victory, the Mighty Macs (17-9) advance to the championship game for the second consecutive year. Immaculata will host No. 4-seed Gwynedd-Mercy in the championship game on Friday, February 29, at Alumnae Hall. The Griffins upset top-seeded Alvernia, 73-66, in the other semifinal contest.

Misericordia (18-9) jumped out early, 7-2, at the 16:38 mark, but a 9-0 run by the Mighty Macs gave them the lead, 11-7, with 14:11 remaining in the first half. Finklea scored seven of Immaculata's first 11 points. After the Mighty Macs knotted the score at 7-all, the Cougars would not lead the rest of the way.

Misericordia got within one of Immaculata, 11-10, at the 13:08 mark after Evan Donegan knocked down a three-pointer. After the Mighty Macs extended their advantage to six, Dom Del Prete made a basket from long range, trimming the lead to 18-15 with 11:01 to play in the first stanza.

Immaculata padded its lead to double digits for the first time in the opening half, 29-19, with 5:07 left to play in the half, and the Mighty Macs took a 41-32 advantage into the locker room.

Finklea led all scorers at the half with 13 points, while Lepone added eight points.

Misericordia came out and scored the first bucket of the second half at the 18:36 mark, cutting the Cougars deficit to seven. The Mighty Macs responded with a 12-4, ignited by a three-pointer by Finklea at the 17:47 mark and capped by another Finklea trey five and a half minutes later. Immaculata maintained a double-figure lead the remainder of the way.

The Mighty Macs took their largest lead of the contest, 68-51, with 3:56 remaining, and the score would end with the same margin.

Finklea finished with a game-high 22 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range to go along with seven rebounds and four steals. Lepone contributed 15 points, including 6-8 from the foul line. Martson reached double figures with 13 points and led Immaculata on the glass with eight rebounds.

The Mighty Macs held a decisive edge from beyond the arc, sinking 8 for 17 (.471), while the Cougars converted just 4-of-23 (.174).

Misericorida's Robbie Johnson registered 14 points and Matt Hornak added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort.
