ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Immaculata received 14 points apiece from three different players, but it was not enough to overcome host Eastern, 80-66, in a non-conference men's basketball contest Tuesday evening.
Julius Lopez,
Kyle Finklea and
John Boyd all notched 14 points for the Mighty Macs (2-4). However, the Eagles put five players in double figures, including Danny Miller and Tyrik Tucker who each posted 17 points, to run away from Immaculata in the second half.
Eastern went on a 20-5 run over the first 7:40 of the second half to build upon its 32-31 halftime advantage and put the Mighty Macs away. A jumper from Josh Anderson and a 3-pointer from Finklea was all the Mighty Macs could muster during that stretch. Immaculata was held scoreless for 4:40 of that deciding run at the start of the second half.
The Eagles shot 56 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes and outrebounded the Mighty Macs by a 25-14 margin as well.
The game was a tale of two halves as Immaculata held a lead for all but 2:30 of the first half. The Mighty Macs ran out to a 10-2 lead at the start of the game. But the Eagles crawled back into the contest, eventually taking the lead for good with 1:09 left before the break. Two free throws from Finklea at the 2:33 mark put Immaculata up 31-27. Eastern scored the final four points of the half before embarking on that decisive second-half run.
Immaculata is off until the new year when the Macs play in the DeSales Tournament Jan. 3-4.
