IMMACULATA, Pa. – Three Immaculata players posted double-double performances as the Immaculata Mighty Macs women's basketball team defeated the Arcadia Knights, 62-47, on Tuesday night in the home opener.
Kelly Brown led the Mighty Macs contingent with game highs of both 21 points and 11 rebounds. Dominique Murray registered her second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Kasey Hicks added 10 points and 10 caroms.
The Mighty Macs improve to 1-2 overall while Arcadia falls to 0-2.
Immaculata trailed by five, 30-25, at the break and came out in the second half out-scoring Arcadia 37-17. The Mighty Macs were 3 of 5 from beyond the arc in the second half while the Knights did not sink a three-pointer on five attempts.
Immaculata opened the second stanza on an 11-3 run, including seven points from Kelly, which gave the Mighty Macs their first lead of the game at the 16:21 mark, 36-33.
The Knights retook the lead at the 15:01 mark, 37-36, but the Mighty Macs tied the contest at 37-all on a Hicks free throw, and Immaculata went ahead on Hick's second made free throw at 14:02.
Immaculata pushed its advantage to double digits with 7:46 remaining at 51-41. Arcadia cut the margin back to nine, 54-45, with 5:35 to play but Immaculata quickly pushed its lead to 15, the largest of the game, and held on for the 15-point win.
Bridget Welz finished with 12 points and four rebounds. Brianna Duffin grabbed four rebounds and had a team-high four steals.
Liz Plum finished with a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds for Arcadia and Caitlin Sparks chipped in 10 points.
Immaculata continues its homestand against Haverford on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring a canned food item in support of the SAAC holiday food drive.
