Mighty Macs Claim First Win Of The Season; Split With Cabrini

Immaculata University softball team captured its first win of the season with an 11-3 victory over Cabrini College in game two of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Friday, March 30, in Radnor, PA. The Mighty Macs fell to the Cavaliers 9-1 in the first game.

Immaculata improved to 1-6-1 overall and 1-3 in the PAC.

In the win, sophomores Missy Hopely and Jackie Mullineaux and freshman Carol Mastrosante each collected two hits, while freshman Gabby Roth amassed three runs and two RBI. Sophomore Missy Fetter recorded a three-run homerun, while Mullineaux added a solo homerun. Hopely and Mastrosante registered one RBI apiece.

With the Mighty Macs trailing 2-1 in the top of the third inning, Roth smacked a two-run double to give Immaculata a 3-2 lead. It was a lead they would never relinquish. The Mighty Macs added one more in the third to post a 4-2 lead. Immaculata would add one more in the fourth on Mullineaux's homerun, and three in the fifth inning. The Mighty Macs finished their scoring in the top of the sixth inning, when Fetter crushed a three-run homerun to left-centerfield to give Immaculata an 11-2 lead.

Freshman Tabitha Kerr earned her first career win. She allowed three runs (one earned) and four hits in the complete game victory.

Kristie Sandefur collected all three hits for Cabrini.

In game one, the Cavaliers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Mighty Macs cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore Val Rult-Guerriere doubled home freshman Jackie Finkbohner, who paced Immaculata with two hits.

However, Cabrini added five in the bottom of the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth, to claim the 9-1 victory.

Fetter suffered the loss.
