Immaculata University softball team fell to Philadelphia Biblical University 5-4 in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 13, in Immaculata, Pennsylvania. The second game of the twinbill was called due to darkness with the score knotted at 7-7.
In the first game, the Mighty Macs (0-2) scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Three straight singles by freshman Gabby Roth, sophomore Melissa Fetter and freshman Jackie Finkbohner gave Immaculata an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore Missy Hopely knocked the second run in on fielder's choice, while an error by the third baseman allowed Finkbohner to score to push the margin to 3-0. The Mighty Macs extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning when junior Melissa Cifaloglio was hit by a pitch. Hopely crossed home plate.
The Crimson Eagles (2-0) posted the next five runs with three in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth and one in the sixth, to post the 5-4 victory.
Roth and Finkbohner had two hits a piece, while freshman Carol Mastronate, Finkbohner, Hopely, and Cifaloglio collected an RBI.
Jessica Ogden and Britanny Ranch registered two hits each for Philadelphia Biblical.
Sophomore Melissa Fetter suffered the loss. She allowed four runs (three earned) over four innings, while Ranch claimed the win for the Crimson Eagles.
