Alvernia Holds Off Late Immaculata Rally

Immaculata University fell to Alvernia College 48-45, in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Thursday, February 8, in Alumnae Hall.

The Mighty Macs fall to 9-13 overall and 9-6 in the PAC.

Freshman Scott Marston tied his career high with 16 points, while junior Robert Jones tied his career best with 13 rebounds. Jones also added seven points and three steals. Marston also tied his career high with eight rebounds, while freshman Jayson Hyman collected five points, eight rebounds and two steals.

The Crusaders (18-4, 13-2 PAC) held a 30-21 lead at the half, but the Mighty Macs began the second half on a 7-2 run to pull within four points, 32-28, with 14:34 remaining. Alvernia extended its lead to 11 points, 45-34, with 5:53 left in the half. However, Immaculata used an 11-2 run to pull within 47-45 with 2:10 left in the second half.

After a Crusader turnover, junior Dan Lepone's jumper just fell short with 0:08 remaining, but the Mighty Macs put Alvernia on the line. After making just one of two, Immaculata had one more shot. Sophomore Julius Lopez' three-point field goal fell short as time expired to preserve the win for the Crusaders.

Terrence Shawell collected a double-double for Alvernia with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Garrett Etzel led all scorers with 17 points.
