Immaculata University fell to Alvernia College 70-55, in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship on Friday, February 23, in Reading, PA.
Freshman Scott Marston collected a career-high 17 points, while junior Robert Jones recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Jayson Hyman registered a game- and career-high 13 rebounds.
Trailing 27-20 with 4:09 left in the first half, the Mighty Macs (12-16) used an 8-1 run to knot the game at 28-28 with 1:17 remaining. The Crusaders scored the last basket of the first half to take a 30-28 lead into intermission.
Alvernia (23-4) opened the second half with a 16-4 run to post a 46-32 lead with 14:51 remaining. The Crusaders held a double-digit lead for most of the second half, until Immaculata cut the lead to nine, 57-48, with 3:15 left. But Alvernia pushed its lead back to 14, 64-50, with 1:27 remaining en route to the 70-55 victory.
Terrence Shawell totaled a game-high 19 points, while Garrett Etzel amassed 18 points for the Crusaders.
