Sophomore Jayson Hyman collected a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Immaculata University to a 70-65 win over Alvernia College in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Monday, December 3, in Alumnae Hall.
It was the first time in their short three-year history that the Mighty Macs defeated the Crusaders. Immaculata also avenged its 70-55 loss to Alvernia in the conference championship last season.
Senior Robert Jones also contributed a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while junior Kyle Finklea poured in 14 points and registered six assists. Senior Reggie Strickland totaled six points off the bench.
Trailing 19-15 with 8:46 left in the first half, the Mighty Macs used a 17-6 run to close the half and take a 32-25 lead into intermission. Immaculata never lost its lead in the second half, but a 12-point lead (69-57) with 1:59 left was cut to four (69-65) as the Crusaders scored eight straight points. But time ran out for Alvernia as the Mighty Macs held on for the 70-65 victory.
Matt King led all scorers with 22 points, while Terrence Shawell added 14 points. Tyrone Bradley amassed a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
