Immaculata Stays Unbeaten: Declaws the Bears

Senior Dan Lepone scored a team-high 17 points to lead Immaculata University to an 87-77 victory over Ursinus College in non-conference action on Wednesday, December 19, in Alumnae Hall.  Off to their best start in school history, the Mighty Macs improved to 6-0 overall.

In addition to Lepone's 17 points, Immaculata put four others in double figures.  Sophomore Jayson Hyman recorded 16 points, while senior Reggie Strickland collected 15 points.  Junior Julius Lopez also registered 15 points, while senior Rob Jones totaled 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds.  Strickland added six rebounds for the Mighty Macs.

Trailing 25-17 with 9:02 left in the first half, Immaculata used a 14-2 run to grab a 31-27 lead with 3:45 left in the opening stanza.  Ursinus (6-2) retook the lead, 34-33, with 2:11 remaining, but the Mighty Macs finished the first half with a 39-36 lead.

The Bears held a 68-67 lead with 9:03 left in the second half, before Immaculata went on a 16-5 run to post an 83-73 lead with 0:51 left.  The Mighty Macs' defense held Ursinus to nine points over the final nine minutes and forced the Bears into 18 turnovers.  Immaculata committed only seven.

Nick Shattuck led all scorers with 24 points, while Matt Hilton posted 12 points for Ursinus.

The Mighty Macs return to action on Friday, December 21, when they travel to face 8-1 Rowan University.  Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm.
