Mighty Macs Fall To Widener In Overtime

Immaculata University men's basketball team suffered an 87-78 overtime loss to Widener University on Monday, December 4, in Alumnae Hall.

Freshman Jayson Hyman recorded a career-high 22 points, while sophomore Kyle Finklea registered 16 points. Senior Kris Behm tied his career-high with 13 points off the bench, while freshman Robert Jones totaled 10 points. Behm also tied his career-best with six steals, while Hyman pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

The Mighty Macs held a 40-34 lead at the half, but the Pride (4-3) began the second half on an 8-4 to take a 45-44 lead with 15:24 left. Both teams traded baskets as Immaculata was able to grab a 70-67 lead with 0:55 remaining in the second half. After two foul shots by Malcolm Thomas cut the lead to 70-69, Behm was fouled and made one of two foul shots, but the Mighty Macs grabbed the offensive rebound and held a 71-69 lead with 0:37. Finklea was fouled on the ensuing possession and connected on one of two shots to give Immaculata a 72-69 lead with 0:20 left. But Widener pushed the game into overtime as Essien Ford connected on a three-pointer with 0:01 left.

The Pride scored the first seven points in overtime and never looked back as they claimed an 87-78 victory.

Nyere Miller led the Pride with 21 points, while Ford posted 20 points.

The Mighty Macs (1-6) return to action on Thursday, December 7, when they host Gwynedd-Mercy College. Tip-off is set for 8 pm.
