Immaculata University men's basketball team fell to Alvernia College 59-58, in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday, December 2, in Reading, PA.
Sophomore Kyle Finklea paced the Mighty Macs with 17 points, while junior Robert Jones and freshman Jayson Hyman recorded 10 points each. Jones and Finklea both pulled down a team-high five rebounds, while Finklea added three assists and Jones collected three steals. Freshman Scott Marston amassed six points and three rebounds off the bench.
Alvernia scored the first basket of the game at 19:09, but Immaculata used a 16-7 run to grab a 16-9 lead with 12:18 remaining in the opening half. It was the largest lead for both teams in the game. The Crusaders went on an 11-4 run to tie the game at 20-20 with 7:06 left. The Mighty Macs and Alvernia traded baskets down the stretch as the Crusaders took a 31-29 lead into intermission.
The second half was a similar story as no team held a lead of more than four (Alvernia 33-29) points. There were six ties and seven lead changes. Matt King's three-pointer at 2:16 gave the Crusaders a 59-56 lead, but Jones' jumper pulled Immaculata within one, 59-58, with 1:51 left. After Alvernia missed a jumper, the Mighty Macs had a chance to play for the win. Sophomore Julius Lopez' shot just rimmed out as time expired to preserve the win for the Crusaders (3-2, 1-0 PAC)
Tyrone Bradley collected a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Alvernia, while Matt King registered a team-high 15 points.
Immaculata (1-5, 1-1 PAC) returns to action on Monday, December 4, when they host Widener University. Tip-off is set for 7 pm.
