Mighty Macs Win Conference Opener

Sophomore Julius Lopez's field goal with 2.5 seconds left in the game propelled Immaculata University to a 64-62 win over Arcadia University in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Thursday, November 30, in Alumnae Hall.  It was the conference opener for both schools.

Junior Robert Jones paced the Mighty Macs with a team-high 13 points, while sophomore Dan Lepone recorded 11. Jones and Lepone collected seven rebounds apiece.  Lopez totaled nine points off the bench, including the game-winner, while sophomore Sean Fordhman scored five.

Leading 62-57 with 2:28 left, the Knights scored five consecutive points, including a lay-up by Kevin Brown with 0:21 remaining, to tie the game at 62-62.  However, Lopez, who previously missed two free throws, redeemed himself with the game-winning basket at 2.5 of the second half.

Dave Boettcher recorded a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds to pace Arcadia (1-4, 0-1 PAC).  Brown added 17 points and nine rebounds, while Terrell Vernado collected nine points off the bench.

The Mighty Macs (1-4, 1-0 PAC) return to action on Saturday, December 2,when they face Alvernia College in Reading, PA.  Tip-off is set for 3 pm.
