CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Immaculata women's volleyball fought hard in their Friday evening battle with the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors, but the Scarlet Raptors won 3-0.
The Mighty Macs are 1-1 for the season. Their first AEC match will be on Saturday, Oct. 17 versus Saint Elizabeth.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST RUTGERS-CAMDEN
- Immaculata climbed out of an early hole to tie the first set at 10. A 7-1 Mighty Macs push put them up four, with three consecutive kills coming from Eliana Szatkowski. An 8-1 turnaround from Rutgers-Camden swung momentum back to them. But, the Mighty Macs pulled to within a point, threatening to send the set into an "overtime." However, Rutgers-Camden finished the first frame 25-23.
- The second set was hotly contested, with neither side gaining an edge. A quick 6-1 run placed the Scarlet Raptors up 15-10. Immaculata took advantage of multiple Rutgers-Camden errors to try and mount a comeback. Despite a Vienna Mascieri service ace, Rutgers-Camden grabbed set two 25-18.
- Madi Kyle, Mel Mann, and Tara Hirschtritt each earned a kill in the initial moments of the final set. The Mighty Macs tied the score at 13, thanks to a Mann kill and consecutive Scarlet Raptors attack errors. Even with the score knotted at 17, a 6-1 outburst ultimately gave Rutgers-Camden the edge. The Scarlet Raptors won 25-20, and the match 3-0.

The Mighty Macs conclude the DeSales Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 5. They will play the host at 10 a.m., followed by Penn College at 2 p.m.
