Women's Soccer Falls to Ursinus, 2-0

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University women's soccer team (5-3-0) saw its five-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday afternoon as the Mighty Macs dropped a 2-0 decision to Ursinus College (5-3-1) at Draper Walsh Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST URSINUS
  • Immaculata created the first scoring opportunity of the afternoon when Natalie D'Alfonso put a shot on goal in the sixth minute, but Ursinus goalkeeper Lexie Albaeck made the save.
  • Ursinus opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Alexis Whaley finished a pass from Fiona Sanders to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
  • The Mighty Macs continued to battle for the remainder of the opening half, with Marissa Sozzi and Gracie Repici each putting shots on goal. Albaeck made three saves in the opening half to keep Immaculata off the scoreboard.
  • Immaculata goalkeeper Devan Cosgrove kept the Mighty Macs within one early in the second half, making a series of saves as Ursinus continued to pressure the Immaculata defense.
  • Immaculata continued to look for the equalizer, but Ursinus' defense and Albaeck kept the Mighty Macs off the scoreboard.
  • Ursinus added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when Kaleigh Evans scored off an assist from Whaley to extend the Bears' lead to 2-0.
  • Immaculata continued to battle until the final whistle, with Heather Russell putting a shot on goal in the 90th minute that was turned aside by Albaeck.

  • Ursinus finished with a 21-4 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • Cosgrove made eight saves in goal for the Mighty Macs, including five in the second half.
  • Repici, D'Alfonso, Sozzi, and Russell each recorded a shot on goal for Immaculata.
  • The Mighty Macs have now scored 18 goals through eight matches this season while allowing 12.
  • Immaculata's five game win streak was the second longest in program history, behind the program record of six set in 2008.
