Women's Socccer Rolls Past Centenary, 6-1, to Open Atlantic East Play

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Immaculata women's soccer opened Atlantic East Conference play in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, rolling past the Centenary University Cyclones 6-1 at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field.
 
The Mighty Macs improve to 6-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in AEC play. Centenary falls to 0-8 and 0-1-0 in AEC play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CENTENARY (N.J.)
  • Immaculata wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Marissa Sozzi scored twice in the opening three minutes to give the Mighty Macs an early 2-0 advantage. Both goals were assisted by Gracie Repici, with Sozzi finding the back of the net at 1:22 and 2:06.
  • Centenary answered in the ninth minute with a free kick goal.
  • Immaculata quickly regained control as Sophia Mazzotta scored an assist from Emma Sobieski in the 23rd minute.
  • The Mighty Macs carried a 3-1 advantage into halftime.
  • Immaculata continued its offensive pressure to begin the second half, as Repici scored just 1:12 into the period to extend the lead to 4-1.
  • The Mighty Macs were awarded a penalty kick in the 51st minute, but the attempt was saved.
  • Repici added her second goal of the afternoon in the 60th minute off an assist from Flora Hernandez.
  • Sobieski capped the scoring in the 69th minute, finding the back of the net off an Immaculata corner kick. The Mighty Macs went on to secure the 6-1 conference-opening victory.
