Women's Soccer Defeats Delaware Valley on the Road, 2-1

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Immaculata University women's soccer earned its fourth consecutive victory Monday afternoon, defeating Delaware Valley University, 2-1, at Robert A. Lipinski Field at James Work Memorial Stadium.
 
With the win, Immaculata improves to 4-2, while Delaware Valley falls to 2-3 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY
  • Immaculata broke through in the 25th minute when Lily McGee found the back of the net for her third goal of the season at 24:13. Flora Hernandez and Addison Yackel assisted on the opening goal.
  • Just 52 seconds later, the Mighty Macs doubled their advantage. Addison Yackel scored at 25:05, heading in a corner kick from Emma Sobieski, giving Immaculata a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. The goal was Yackel's third of the season.
  • Immaculata continued to generate scoring opportunities throughout the second half, putting 12 shots toward the Delaware Valley goal. Delaware Valley goalkeeper Dekota Barthold made 12 saves to keep the Aggies within striking distance.
  • Delaware Valley cut the deficit to 2-1 at 57:45 when Alexa DelGiudice scored on a free kick.
  • The Mighty Macs continued to pressure the Aggies' defense following the goal, recording eight additional shots on goal in the second half. Barthold made eight saves after halftime, while Immaculata goalkeeper Devan Cosgrove made one save to preserve the victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Mighty Macs controlled play throughout the contest, finishing with a 22-3 advantage in shots and a 14-2 edge in shots on goal. Immaculata also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Addi Husenica started in goal and played in the opening 45 minutes, while Cosgrove played in the second half. Immaculata's defense held Delaware Valley to just three total shots and one shot on goal over the 90 minutes.
  • Emma Sobieski registered her team-leading fourth assist of the season.
  • Lily McGee finished with one goal on five shots, including two shots on goal, while Yackel added one goal and one assist. Hernandez recorded five shots on goal and one assist, while Gracie Repici registered four shots, including two on target. Natalie D'Alfonso added three shots, with two on goal.
  • Immaculata got strong play on the back line from Sam Terry, Heather Russell, and Mia Perrone, who all played the full 90 minutes for the Might Macs
