Field Hockey Falls to Marywood on Late Goal

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata University Field Hockey held a 2-1 lead entering the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon, but Marywood rallied with two fourth-quarter goals, including the game-winner with 56 seconds remaining, to hand the Mighty Macs a 3-2 setback at Draper Walsh Stadium.
 
Immaculata falls to 2-2 on the season with the loss, while Marywood improves to 2-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MARYWOOD
  • Immaculata opened the scoring at 9:50 of the first quarter when Maria Berenato scored her first goal of the season. Alexis Andrada played the ball into the center. Berenato stickhandled around the defender and shot the ball into the cage for the goal.
  • Marywood equalized the score just 1:28 later when Whitney Berge converted a penalty stroke. Mackenzie Schrack got her blocker on the shot, but the momentum carried the shot into the cage.
  • The teams played a scoreless second quarter, with Immaculata generating the only shot of the quarter.
  • The Mighty Macs regained the lead in the game's 33rd minute when Morgan Barnes scored her third goal of the season. Barnes stickhandled around the defender and cut across the middle, driving a shot into the cage for the goal.
  • Immaculata carried a 2-1 advantage into the fourth quarter.
  • Marywood tied the game at 49:41 with a goal from Amelia Niven.
  • With just 56 seconds remaining, Barwick scored the game-winning goal to give Marywood the 3-2 victory.
  • The Pacers earned four penalty corners in the final 12 minutes, including three within 36 seconds at 57:05, 57:23 and 57:23.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Berenato scored her first goal of the season.
  • Barnes continues to shine on the offensive end for Immaculata, scoring her third goal of the season.
