Field Hockey Battles Eastern in 4-1 Setback

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University field hockey team battled Eastern University through two scoreless quarters Wednesday evening before the Eagles used a three-goal third quarter run to pull away for a 4-1 victory at Draper Walsh Stadium.
 
With the setback, Immaculata falls to 2-1 on the season, while Eastern improves to 3-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS EASTERN
  • Immaculata and Eastern battled through a scoreless opening quarter, with the Eagles generating most of the early offensive pressure. Eastern recorded seven shots and four penalty corners, but Mackenzie Schrack kept the Mighty Macs off the scoreboard with five saves. Immaculata's lone shot of the quarter came from Morgan Barnes, which was turned aside by Eastern goalkeeper Angelina Catania.
  • The defensive battle continued in the second quarter as neither team found the back of the cage. Eastern added two shots and one penalty corner, while Schrack made another save to keep the Eagles scoreless. Immaculata was unable to register a shot during the quarter, sending the teams into halftime tied 0-0.
  • Eastern broke the deadlock in the third quarter, scoring twice in a span of just over two minutes. CJ Summa opened the scoring at 39:29, before Ryhanna Ridgeway doubled the Eagles' advantage at 41:42. Immaculata created significant offensive pressure late in the quarter, recording nine shots, but Eastern goalkeeper Angelina Catania turned aside the Mighty Macs' opportunities to preserve the 2-0 lead entering the fourth.
  • Eastern extended its lead to 3-0 at 51:28 when Alyssa Caldini scored. Immaculata answered at 53:44 when Maria Freeman found the rebound of Alexa Marczak's shot and deposited it in the cage following a penalty corner insert to record her first goal of the season and cut the deficit to 3-1. The Eagles responded quickly, with Cameron Brancato scoring at 55:08 to make the final score 4-1. Immaculata continued to pressure offensively and finished the quarter with six shots and three penalty corners but could not close the gap.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Maria Freeman recorded her first goal of the season and the first goal of the night for the Mighty Macs.
  • Alexis Andrada paced the Immaculata attack with six shots and three shots on goal.
  • Mackenzie Schrack recorded nine saves in the cage, including her 100th career save.
