Women's Flag Football Earns Split in Tri-Match vs Holy Family and Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Immaculata women's flag football team earned a split in their AEC Tri-Match vs. Holy Family and Marymount. Immaculata defeated Holy Family 14-7 in their first game, before falling 27-0 in their second game vs the host Marymount. Marymount defeated Holy Family 58-0 in their matchup.
 
With today's results, Immaculata moves to 6-2 overall, and they are 5-2 in Atlantic East Conference play.
 
Game One: Immaculata 14, Holy Family 7
 
Immaculata leaned on defense and timely execution to secure a 14–7 victory over Holy Family on Sunday afternoon at Marymount.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HOLY FAMILY
  • Holy Family struck first with a touchdown pass in the opening quarter to take a 7-0 lead.
  • Immaculata's defense responded with resilience, keeping the score at 7-0 going into the second quarter.
  • The turning point came in the second quarter when Eliana Szatkowski stepped in front of a pass for an interception and returned it 63 yards for the touchdown to tie the score at 7-7 and shift the momentum towards Immaculata as the game went to halftime tied.
  • Immaculata took the lead for good in the third quarter. Devan Cosgrove hit Elian Szatkowski for an 18-yard pass to move the ball to the one-yard line to set up her own one-yard run for the touchdown to put the Mighty Macs up 14-7.
  • The Immaculata defense was able to lock the game down in the fourth quarter, forcing Holy Family to turn it over on downs in their final two possessions to secure the 14-7 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Devan Cosgrove was 11-19, passing for 83 yards, and had 7 rushes for 24 yards and a TD.
  • Tiara Lawler had five carries for 30 yards, three receptions for 23 yards, and 11 total tackles on defense, including 10 solo tackles.
  • Eliana Szatkowski had four receptions for 44 yards and had two interceptions, including a 63-yard pick-six touchdown.
  • Natalie Dodd has seven total tackles, including six solos.

Game Two: Marymount 27, Immaculata 0
 
Immaculata closed out its Sunday slate with a 27–0 setback against Marymount at Bishop O'Connell Field in Arlington, Virginia. Despite a strong defensive effort early, the Mighty Macs were unable to generate offensive momentum as turnovers and negative plays proved costly throughout the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MARYMOUNT
  • The game remained scoreless through the opening quarter, with Immaculata's defense holding firm and creating early pressure.
  • Marymount broke through in the second quarter with a quick scoring strike, taking a 7–0 lead into halftime.
  • Marymount began to pull away in the third quarter with a 19-yard run for a touchdown to extend the lead to 14-0.
  • Immaculata showed flashes defensively, highlighted by an interception from Taylor Eagan, and tackles from Tiara Lawler and Theresa Jappah.
  • The fourth quarter proved decisive, as Marymount added two more scores, including a defensive touchdown off an interception return, to seal the 27–0 result.

The Immaculata women's flag football team will be back in action on Tuesday, when they travel to Hackettstown, N.J., for an AEC Tri-Match with Penn State Schuylkill and Centenary. Immaculata will play PSU Schuylkill at 4:30 p.m., and the host Centenary at 6 p.m.
