Corsones Honored for Senior Day as Men's Volleyball Defeats Valley Forge

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata men's volleyball took down the University of Valley Forge Patriots 3-2 on Tuesday evening. Alex Corsones was honored pregame for Senior Day.

The win clinched a playoff spot for the Mighty Macs in just their first season in the United East Conference.

The Mighty Macs are 6-6 for the season. They are 5-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST VALLEY FORGE
  • The Mighty Macs took a three-point lead early on a Brandon Lieberman ace and a Nate Bailey kill. Valley Forge countered a 4-0 Immaculata with a 5-0 run of their own to tie the score at 19. Although the Patriots tied it at 23 late, a Lieberman kill and a Valley Forge attack error gave Immaculata a 25-23 set one win.
  • Five straight Mighty Macs points provided them with a 6-2 lead, thanks to back-to-back Anthony Fitch aces. Immaculata continued with momentum on a few Valley Forge errors, but the Patriots stayed close. A 4-0 Valley Forge push pulled them to within three, but a Corsones kill and more errors from the visitors ended the set at 25-20.
  • A 9-0 Valley Forge outburst gave the Patriots command in set three. Immaculata would rally back with a 6-1 run to get within two. Michael Prall was critical in a 5-1 push with three kills and an ace. However, the visitors closed out the set 25-19 with four straight points.
  • Three consecutive Valley Forge points were countered by six from Immaculata. A 5-0 Patriots swing placed them ahead by three. A sequence of Valley Forge scoring two, followed by Immaculata scoring twice, happened two times in a row. The Mighty Macs scored four straight to cut the deficit to 24-23, but a service error was enough for a Patriots 25-23 victory.
  • A Jordan Brown kill was the first Immaculata points of the final frame. The Patriots went up 8-2 with early momentum. A 6-1 Immaculata push, capped off by a Bailey kill, knotted the score at 10. The Mighty Macs' offense came to life for the last five Mighty Macs points, as they were all on kills. Three were from Noah Zunski. Immaculata won a thrilling fifth set 15-12, and the match 3-2.
