LANGHORNE, Pa. – Immaculata men's volleyball was competitive in their Wednesday night match with the Cairn University Highlanders, but the home team won 3-0.
The Mighty Macs are 6-7 for the season. They are 5-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CAIRN
- A pair of Luke Dortenzo aces helped the Mighty Macs lead 4-0 early. The Highlanders slowly cut into the deficit on their own pair of aces. Although a 5-1 Cairn swing gave them the lead temporarily, two errors sent the lead right back to Immaculata. A few Noah Zunski kills kept the set close, and the set eventually went to an "overtime" tied at 24. Cairn snuck by in the final rallies on a kill and an attack error. The Highlanders won set one 27-25.
- The second set started similar to the first, as Dortenzo logged three consecutive aces. A 6-0 Cairn push was good for a three-point advantage. A Christian Lee kill and consecutive Zunski aces tied the score at 7-7. Even with Immaculata's lead slowly slipping, the two sides were tied all the way up to 22-22. However, the Highlanders took three of the last four points to grab set two 25-23.
- The Highlanders' offense got going early in the third set with a 9-3 lead. Immaculata used a few Cairn errors to cut into the deficit. Although the Mighty Macs scored three straight to pull to within eight, the Highlanders finished the night with the final two points. Cairn won the set 25-15, and the match 3-0.
