ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Immaculata University men's lacrosse team held a three-goal lead in the fourth quarter, but Lebanon Valley College scored four times in the final three minutes to claim a 9–8 victory Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field.
Immaculata falls to 5-3 overall, while Lebanon Valley improves to 6-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LEBANON VALLEY
- Immaculata (5-3) opened the scoring midway through the first quarter when Jude Azzarano capitalized on a man-up opportunity to give the Mighty Macs a 1–0 lead. After Lebanon Valley evened the score, John Stelacio restored the advantage late in the quarter to make it 2–1 heading into the second.
- Following a scoreless second period, the Mighty Macs came out strong in the third quarter. Aaron Headley scored on a man-up opportunity off an assist from Jason Smaron, and Stelacio added his second goal of the game moments later. Goals from Ryan Gorman and Smaron helped Immaculata stretch its lead to 6–2 before Lebanon Valley scored twice late in the quarter to cut the deficit to 6–4 entering the final period.
- Immaculata pushed its lead back to three early in the fourth as Smaron finished a feed from Azzarano and Headley added his second goal of the afternoon to give the Mighty Macs an 8–5 advantage with 10:42 remaining.
- Lebanon Valley answered with four goals in the final minutes to complete the comeback and secure the 9–8 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Smaron, Headley, and Stelacio each scored two goals to pace the Immaculata attack, while Azzarano added a goal and an assist.
- In goal, Matthew Ludlow recorded 17 saves for the Mighty Macs.
- Lebanon Valley held a 43–30 advantage in shots and a 29–24 edge in ground balls in the contest.
