Dortenzo Nearly Sets Two Program Records in Men's Volleyball's Win over Pratt Cannoneers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Immaculata men's volleyball earned a crucial conference win on Saturday behind a career day from Luke Dortenzo. The Mighty Macs took down the Pratt Institute Cannoneers 3-1.

The Mighty Macs are 4-4 for the season. They are 3-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST PRATT
  • While Pratt grabbed an early advantage, Immaculata tied the set on a Cannoneers attack error. A 10-1 run allowed Immaculata to pull away in the first frame, with multiple kills from Noah Zunski. Dortenzo served three aces in a four-point stretch to bring the Mighty Macs closer to a set win. A Pratt attack error gave Immaculata a 25-14 victory.
  • The Mighty Macs went up 6-2 with the offense setting the tone. Pratt trailed close behind, but seven straight points secured the set for Immaculata. In that stretch, all the kills were either by Zunski or Josh McGurl. Immaculata held off the Cannoneers from any true comeback in the set. Two Zunski kills were enough for the 2-0 match lead with a 25-17 set two final.
  • The Cannoneers grabbed momentum in the third set on a 6-1 push. The Mighty Macs slowly climbed their way back in, as they trailed 14-13 on another Dortenzo ace. Pratt earned a point, followed by an Immaculata point, a feat that was done four straight times. Two McGurl kills brought Immaculata within striking distance of a sweep, but Pratt logged a kill to force a fourth set. The Cannoneers won 25-22 in set three.
  • Seven consecutive Mighty Macs points provided them with the momentum needed to capture the fourth set. This would put them up 12-6. A few Pratt errors allowed the Mighty Macs to stay ahead. A pair of Jordan Brown kills concluded the match. Dortenzo either assisted or had a kill on the last seven Immaculata points. Immaculata won the set 25-19, and the match 3-1.
