IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata men's volleyball returned to the win column on Monday against the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles, as the Mighty Macs earned the sweep.
The Mighty Macs are 3-4 for the season. They are 2-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SAINT ELIZABETH
- The first set was back and forth between both sides before Saint Elizabeth went up 10-6. Kills from Jordan Brown and Nate Bailey helped the Mighty Macs swing momentum back to them, as they tied the set at 14. A 5-0 Immaculata run sealed the set, despite the Eagles nearly forcing "overtime." The Mighty Macs took set one 25-23.
- An 8-1 Mighty Macs push set the tone in the second frame. Bailey grabbed a kill and an ace to give the Mighty Macs a nine-point advantage. Even with Immaculata leading by 10, Saint Elizabeth climbed back into the set and trailed by five. However, a visitors' service error and a Luke Dortenzo ace provided Immaculata with a 25-18 set two victory.
- Immaculata dominated the third set by utilizing a 13-1 opening run. Multiple Saint Elizabeth errors continued to grow Immaculata's lead. The Mighty Macs went up by as much as 22-7. A Brown kill ended the night. Immaculata took set three 25-8, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Noah Zunski had a team-high eight kills.
- Dortenzo grabbed 28 assists and tied Bailey for two aces each.
- J.P. Farrelly led the Mighty Macs with seven digs.
