GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Immaculata men's basketball almost finished off the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins in regulation on Saturday, but the Griffins forced overtime and won the game 81-72.
The Mighty Macs are 4-17 for the season. They are 3-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST GWYNEDD MERCY
- Despite a couple of Gwynedd Mercy layups to open the game, the Mighty Macs stayed close behind. A Jayden Williams triple got them back to within one. It was part of a 13-0 Immaculata run, as the visitors would go up 17-9. Although the game was tied multiple times in the waning moments of the first half, Gwynedd Mercy trimmed the deficit with layups and a pair of foul shots. Immaculata went to the locker room with a 40-36 advantage.
- Both sides exchanged buckets in the early part of the second half. A few Mighty Macs free throws were countered by back-to-back Griffins triples to give them a slim lead. Despite Immaculata earning the advantage back, Gwynedd Mercy would not quit in their pursuits. Following a costly Immaculata turnover with 16 seconds left, Gwynedd Mercy missed a three to tie the game. However, they grabbed the offensive rebound and converted on a triple seconds later. The score was 66-66 going into the extra frame.
- The Griffins utilized overtime by scoring the first nine points. Jalen Flowers halted the run with a layup to cut the lead to seven. Even with a good attempt by Immaculata, Gwynedd Mercy hitting their free throws at the end separated them from the visitors. The Griffins won 81-72.
